I am Turkish and almost-native Spanish speaker who read Cervantes from original. Both Ottoman history and Cervantes' memories state that algerian pirates were treating good to captured people because the only thing they were expecting was the money they get from the family.


Interesting application of trauma/grief/persecution literary analysis to a leading European figure of the Western canon, as opposed to its more familiar role in literature of groups oppressed by Europeans.


The article starts talking about Cervantes but the journalist, she ends up talking about herself.
